PASTOR’S POINTS:

Pentecost:  The day we remember our Lord’s gift to us of the Holy Spirit.  This year we will celebrate twice this glorious gift. Sunday morning I will join 1,000 other Episcopalians as we share in the Holy Eucharist at the Diocesan Convention at Camp of the Woods.  This service will be the culmination of three days spent gathering together under the Lordship of Jesus in our lives, seeking a fresh indwelling of the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful time that will be.  Then we gather together here at Church of Our Saviour at 6pm to also seek the dwelling of the Holy Spirit in this place.  What wonderful work the Spirit is doing here in the valley we call home.  Read on to see what work is being done here and how you can share your gifts.

VESTRY HIGHLIGHTS:

The vestry has been working diligently seeking the direction of the Lord in his vision for the Church of Our Saviour and how to share his message of love and forgiveness with the people of the valley.  Below are some of the projects under way.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

Discipleship: This group of Christians has as its goal to spread the word about Jesus.  Many ideas have been processed. The Lord has led this committee to try to develop a Youth Program with the other churches of the valley and the Youth for Christ Program.  Several meetings have been held with an enthusiastic reception by the other churches.  Keep tuned in for more information as this program develops as to how you may fit in in sharing God’s love and saving grace to the children who live here.

Restoration: spring has sprung and so has the work to upgrade our buildings.  The church has started to receive a fresh coat of paint.  The painter tells me we were looking at weathered wood.  Next will be the rectory as it and the garage receive a face-lift, paint, siding, new windows and sealing all are planned for the coming season.

Building and Grounds: The flower box is starting to bloom.  As the summer progresses more flowers will be added to keep it attractive all year long.  Thank you again to the bulb planting team.  Thank you to Don Faulkner for replacing the ceiling in the sacristy.  Kyle Godfroy is doing lawn mowing this year, as George Godfroy felt unable to continue.  Thank you George for the years of service.

Finance:  Watch your Episcopalian to see the articles about the stewardship course now being offered by the diocese.  The gift of God is seen in our lives each and every day. We often forget that we are the stewards of God‘s world, this course is designed to help us recall that duty as we study, worship, work and play.

Missions:  This is a new committee on the vestry.  The vestry has decided to tithe to various mission projects a portion of our budget.  So far this year we have given $1000 to the Cathedral of All Saints, $100 Berkshire Farm, $50 Rock the World, $25 per month to Charlie’s Pantry, $25 per month Samaritan Shelters and a missionary Matt Water and family.  Check out the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall.

MEDITATE ON THIS:

Acts 2: 1,3,42 “ on the day of Pentecost all the followers were together in one place.  Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues moving in all directions and a tongue came and settled on each person there.  The Holy Spirit took control of everyone.  They spent their time learning from the apostles and they were like family to each other.  They also broke bread and prayed together.”   Pentecost is fifty days after Easter to celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The Jews celebrated Pentecost fifty days after Passover in celebration of the wheat harvest and as the time they were given the laws of Moses.  How like Jesus to take a time of celebrating a wheat harvest to share with the apostles the harvest of souls.  With his life he changed the Law of Moses from only to the Jews to all men.  As you celebrate the time of Pentecost, how can the love of God you feel be shared with the souls ready for harvest?
